Writer-director Hideo Kojima has a bold idea for what he wants to do next, and that is to be the first person ever to make a game in space. Speaking to The Guardian, the Death Stranding boss said he wants to “train properly” and “learn how to do the docking” for a trip to the International Space Station.He said he’d like to stay there “for a few months” and “probably make games in space.””I want to be the first,” he said, adding that he believes going to space is possible at his age, 61, because “there are a lot of astronauts over 60.”As far as we’re aware, no video games have ever made been in space, so Kojima would indeed be breaking new ground if he can realize his vision. He also mentioned that he doesn’t want to simply go to space to say he’s done it like some celebrities and rich people have done. “That’s not space,” he said.What Kojima is after is pursuing something risky to make him feel more alive. “It’s ‘Tom Cruise disease,'” he said. “Tom Cruise finds out his worth when living with his life on the line.”As it happens, Cruise also has aspirations for space. Plans were at one point underway to shoot him into space to film scenes for a movie at the ISS.As for Kojima, his new game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is out now on PS5.
